Year 2008 | Chengdu, China
Tian Fu College Southwest University of Educational Facility in Science Park is a project features two interconnected buildings: a 20-story inclined tower with an oval-shaped theater at its ground floor and a 10-story curved building covered by a lattice "veil" that rises and falls from street level. These structures are connected by a bridge housing classrooms, offices, and lounges, which serves as a public gateway from the street, encouraging interaction between academic users and visitors.
Capitalizing on its prominent corner site, the buildings are positioned along the lot's perimeter, creating a landscaped plaza in front of the amphitheater. This plaza serves as a hub for community activity, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding urban fabric. The taller tower is strategically placed near public vehicular circulation areas, with its main entrance located in a semi-covered space directly accessible from the adjacent street intersection.

The façade design employs a dual-layered approach: an outer metallic screen and an inner glazed envelope covered by perforated metal cladding. This environmental strategy reduces summer heat gain, facilitates natural ventilation, and provides insulation against the harsh local winters.
The curved building houses modular dormitory units designed for flexibility, allowing easy reconfiguration to accommodate changes in student group compositions. The "veil" envelops the building with a lattice framework that diffuses external light, mitigates heat, and creates a protective barrier between outdoor recreational areas and balconies facing public streets.
The “Veil” weaves over the building to let diffused light through its lattice-like cover, mitigating heat island effect and providing a barrier between outdoor recreational areas and balconies facing the busy street.
